Introduction to Conference Interpreting

This skill-building webinar with Yvette Citizen focuses on the practice of simultaneous interpreting in conference settings. Offered online through the National Center for Interpretation, University of Arizona.

Clear distinctions are drawn between the simultaneous court and conference interpretation modes.

This live, instructor-led webinar contrasts the rigidity of judicial interpretation and the flexibility of simultaneous conference interpretation. Practical tips and exercises such as shadowing, multitasking and paraphrasing are introduced.  Finally, participants will have the opportunity to record themselves interpreting an exercise employing conference-related skills and submit it for individualized feedback from the instructor.

CEUs have been approved for CA and the ATA. NCI is a pre-approved provider of CEUs for CO, FL, KY,  PA, and TN.

Feeling Confident While Interpreting in Civil Depositions

PLEASE NOTE: This event will occur 7pm Eastern, 4pm Pacific time.

Civil depositions provide a great source of work opportunities for freelancing judicial interpreters, but they can be very challenging. This workshop will cover the format and protocol followed at a civil deposition; examples of civil cases that usually involve civil depositions; and terminology the interpreter is likely to encounter during a civil deposition. The second half of the workshop will consist of hands-on consecutive practice of exercises based on authentic civil cases.
